Baskets
A gift basket sounds lovely until it shows up in crinkly cellophane stuffed with crackers nobody asked for. Limoges basket boxes are the upgrade: a basket that never goes stale and fits in the palm of your hand. Give one to the picnic planner, the Easter egg hunt champion or the neighbor who drops off tomatoes from her garden. Each is hand-painted in France, hinged and arrives gift-boxed. It says "I thought of you" with far more style than another scented candle.
These baskets are packed with personality. Picnic baskets come loaded with wine, bread, cheese and a napkin, and one even carries champagne and flowers. Others hold cherries, fruit or a sunny yellow bouquet, while pretty pastel baskets cradle perfume bottles. Animals love a good basket too, so watch for a cat in a sewing basket, a teddy bear, doves and a pair of cheeky rats. Coastal fans may spot a Nantucket-style basket with a lighthouse, and spring brings an Easter basket with eggs and a bird.
Baskets make the ultimate seasonal collection. Pick one for Easter, one for summer picnics, one for the harvest and one for the holidays, and you have a calendar you can rotate across the mantel. Set the current season's basket on a side table and keep the rest waiting in a curio cabinet. For a farmhouse look, gather several in a wooden dough bowl, or line them up on a mirrored vanity tray for sparkle. A picnic basket is a darling bridal shower gift, too, and it never needs a cooler.
