Our Story

Bienvenue, cher ami. Thank you for stopping by. This is the story of a little pink poodle, a city in the heart of France, and the very small gifts that hold very big feelings. Settle in. We like to take our time, the way a Limoges painter does.

A gift that says you thought about it

Perfect Limoges began with a simple idea: the best gifts are small, personal and made to last. A hand-painted Limoges box fits in the palm of your hand, yet it can mark a wedding, welcome a baby, celebrate a retirement or say "I remembered" in a way few other gifts can.

Think about the gifts you have kept the longest. Chances are they aren't the biggest or the most expensive. They're the ones that felt chosen: the bracelet with a charm that meant something, the card you saved in a drawer, the little object that still sits on your dresser years later. A Limoges box belongs in that family. It is tiny enough to tuck into a stocking, sturdy enough to last for generations, and personal enough that the person opening it knows you were thinking of them, not just of the calendar.

We are a small, women-owned business, and for more than twenty years we have worked directly with the porcelain workshops of the Limousin region of France. We are an authorized dealer of Rochard and Artoria, two of the most respected Limoges ateliers, and every piece we sell is genuine French porcelain, painted by hand and signed on the base.

Why "Thee" Perfect Limoges Box?

Tiny hinged boxes were once the treasures of queens and courtiers. In eighteenth-century France, a beautifully painted box was carried, admired, traded and given as a token of affection, and the finest ones were fit for royalty. Ladies kept beauty patches in them. Gentlemen kept snuff. Sweethearts hid notes and locks of hair inside. A little box could say "I adore you" without a single word.

We wanted a name with a little of that old-world ceremony. So it isn't just a perfect Limoges box. It's Thee Perfect Limoges Box: the one you chose, for the one person it was meant for. A touch grand? Bien sûr. But so is the feeling of finding exactly the right gift.

Meet our pink poodle

You may have noticed a certain fluffy someone in our logo. Our pink poodle is a Limoges box herself: curly, confident, perched on a flowered base with gold trim, and absolutely certain she is the most elegant creature in the room. To us she sums up everything a Limoges box should be. She's very French, a little bit glamorous and a whole lot of fun, and she doesn't take herself too seriously. When you see her, you know you're in the right place for something charming.

From a lump of clay to a little masterpiece

Every box we sell begins as kaolin, the pure white clay found near Limoges that makes true hard-paste porcelain possible. The porcelain is shaped and fired at very high heat until it turns glassy, strong and gently translucent. Then the artistry begins.

A painter sits at a workbench with fine brushes and builds the design layer by layer: a poodle's curls, the stripes on a hot-air balloon, the gold rim of a teacup no bigger than a thimble. Many pieces go back into the kiln between colors so each layer sets. Finally, tiny metal hinges and clasps are fitted by hand, the lid is checked so it closes just so, and the box is marked on the base with its French origin. By the time it reaches you, a lot of patient hands have touched it. C'est magnifique, and it's why no two are ever exactly alike.

The details you only notice up close

Pick up a Limoges box and look carefully. You may find a tiny painted message inside the lid. You may find a removable accessory: a little bone for a puppy, a bottle of champagne in a bucket, a present tucked under Santa's arm. You may find gold accents that catch the light on the clasp. These small surprises are part of the fun, and they reward the kind of person who looks closely at the things they love.

How we choose what we carry

We are not a warehouse that lists whatever arrives on a truck. We look for boxes with charm, wit and personality: designs that make you smile, tell a story, or match someone's hobby, pet, hometown or happiest memory. A dachshund in a sweater. A tiny Eiffel Tower. A champagne bucket for the friend who is always ready to celebrate. If it makes us say "oh, she would love that," it earns its place on the shelf.

We also pay attention to the details that matter to collectors: clean painting, well-fitted hinges, crisp marks on the base and designs that hold their value and their charm over time.

Our little philosophy, en français

  • Les petits plaisirs (the little pleasures): we believe small joys matter. A tiny box on a nightstand can brighten a whole morning.
  • Le savoir-faire (know-how): we honor the skill of the artisans who make each piece and we tell you honestly what you're buying.
  • La joie de vivre (the joy of living): gifts should be fun. We'd rather make you laugh at a pug in a tutu than bore you with a catalog number.
  • Le cadeau parfait (the perfect gift): our whole shop is built to help you find it.

How we help you choose

With thousands of designs, finding the right box can feel overwhelming. That is why Perfect Limoges is organized around the people and moments you are shopping for rather than catalog numbers. Start with the occasion or the person, and we will show you the boxes that fit.

  • Shop by occasion: Christmas, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, new babies, graduations and more.
  • Shop by recipient: for her, for him, for moms, for teachers, for best friends and everyone in between.
  • Shop by collector: horse collectors, pig collectors, owl collectors, Santa collectors and many more.
  • Shop by theme: teapots, handbags, landmarks, sweets and all the delightful little objects in between.

A Limoges box for every chapter of life

One of the things we love most about these little boxes is how they follow people through the years. A single family might collect a whole life story in porcelain:

Les premiers jours: the very beginning

A baby carriage or a stork for the new arrival. A tooth-fairy box to hold that first wobbly tooth. A tiny rocking horse or teddy bear for a christening, and a "Baby's First Christmas" box to hang onto long after the onesies are outgrown.

L'enfance: growing up

A ballet slipper after the first recital. A soccer ball or a pony for the kid who lives at the barn. A little school bus or a stack of books on the first day of kindergarten. These are the boxes grown children rediscover years later and say, "Mom, you kept this?"

Les grands moments: milestones

A graduation cap with a removable diploma. A little car for a new driver. A suitcase for the semester abroad. An Eiffel Tower for the girl who finally gets to Paris. A sweet-sixteen cake with sixteen tiny candles painted on top.

L'amour: love

A heart for a first Valentine's Day. A ring box that hides the real ring. Wedding bells, a champagne bucket, a cake with a bride and groom. Then the anniversaries: silver at twenty-five, gold at fifty, and a little love note tucked inside every year in between.

La maison: home and family

A cottage with a red door for the new homeowners. A teapot for the hostess. A tiny Christmas tree for the first holiday in a new house, and a poodle, a Lab or a tabby that looks just like the family pet.

La retraite et au-delà: retirement and beyond

A golf bag, a fishing boat, a garden watering can or a cruise ship for the next adventure. And sometimes, a gentle remembrance box: an angel, a cardinal or a beloved pet, to keep someone close.

That's the magic. These boxes are small, but they hold whole lives.

A few of our favorite ways to give

Tuck something inside

The hinged lid is an invitation. Hide a pair of earrings, an engagement ring, a folded love note, a baby's first tooth, a ticket to a show or a key to a new home. The box becomes the wrapping and the keepsake.

Match it to a memory

Did you honeymoon in Paris? Does your sister talk about her horse more than her husband? Did your dad teach you to fish? Choose a box that points to a story only the two of you share. Those are the gifts that make people cry the good kind of tears.

Start a tradition

Many families give one box every year: a new Christmas box for each child, an anniversary box every June, a birthday box for a goddaughter until she grows up. Year by year, the collection becomes a little timeline of a life, and it's the kind of thing that gets passed down.

Give one to yourself

We won't tell. Some of the happiest boxes we send are the ones that people buy for themselves after a big week, a promotion or a hard season. Tu le mérites: you deserve it.

Not sure where to start? A little cheat sheet

  • For someone who has everything: go personal. Their dog's breed, their hobby, their hometown or a favorite food will beat anything generic.
  • For a man: golf, fishing, cigars, cars, sports and travel designs are always a hit, and they look handsome on a desk or dresser.
  • For a teacher, nurse or coworker: an apple, a stack of books, a coffee cup or a little symbol of their work says "I noticed what you do."
  • For a collector: ask a family member what they already own, then choose a design that fits the collection but adds something new: a new breed, a new color, a new season.
  • For sympathy or comfort: angels, cardinals, hearts and gentle florals are thoughtful and never too much.
  • When in doubt: a heart, a flower or a classic round box with hand-painted roses is always très chic.

For gift-givers and for collectors

Some of our customers are buying their very first Limoges box as a gift. Others have shelves, curio cabinets and entire rooms devoted to their collections. We love them both. For gift-givers, we make it easy to find something meaningful fast. For collectors, we hunt for the breeds, birds, holidays and hobbies that complete a collection, and we're always happy to help you find that one missing piece.

Starting a collection

If you're new to collecting, here's our advice: start with what you love. Collections built around a passion (dogs, teapots, travel, Christmas, a favorite color) are the most fun to grow and the easiest for family and friends to add to. Keep the presentation boxes, display your pieces where you'll see them every day, and don't be afraid to mix whimsical designs with classic ones. A curio shelf with a pig in pearls next to a gilded Fabergé-style egg is a shelf with personality.

Displaying your treasures

Group boxes by theme for a little tableau, line them up on a windowsill where the light shows off the porcelain, or tuck one on a bookshelf as a surprise for guests to discover. Glass-front cabinets keep the dust away, and a small mirror at the back makes a collection look twice as big. Rotate holiday boxes out of storage each season so they feel new again.

Passing it on

Limoges collections have a way of becoming heirlooms. Consider writing a little card for each special box, noting who gave it, when and why, and keeping it in the presentation box. One day someone you love will read those cards, and the collection will be worth far more than porcelain.

Gift-ready, every time

Every box arrives in its presentation box, carefully packed so it travels safely. Tuck a note inside the lid, a pair of earrings or a lock of baby hair, and it becomes a keepsake that stays on the dresser for decades.

A few questions about us

Is everything you sell really from France?

Yes. Every box we sell is genuine Limoges porcelain from France, hand-painted and marked on the base. If you'd like to learn how to check for yourself, our Is It Genuine? guide walks you through it.

Will my box look exactly like the photo?

Very close, with a little personality. Because each box is painted by hand, small variations in color and detail are normal. We think that's what makes each one special.

Can you help me pick?

Absolument. Tell us who it's for and what they love, and a real person will help you find the right box. Just reach out through our contact page.

There is something wonderful about a business built on happy occasions. Every day we help people celebrate a birth, a marriage, a graduation, a recovery or just an ordinary Tuesday that deserved a little sparkle. We help people say thank you, I'm sorry, I'm proud of you and I miss you. And we get to do it with some of the most charming objects ever made in France. Quelle chance! What luck.
