Hanukkah Gifts

Eight nights is a lot of gift-giving, and by night five the ideas start running thin. Limoges Hanukkah gifts shine on any night of the festival. A hand-painted dreidel or menorah feels special without feeling fussy, and it arrives gift-boxed, ready to sit on the table beside the real menorah. Each one is hinged, so it can hold a few chocolate coins, a pair of earrings or a note from Grandma. Every year, it comes back out with the candles.

Dreidels come in every color scheme: red and blue, blue and maroon, white with brass, sunny yellow and versions painted with scenes of Jerusalem. Menorahs appear in deep blue, crisp white and on round and oval boxes, plus one on a little table with a candle you can lift out. You will also find a Star of David in several designs and books marked with a menorah or star. A Western Wall box with a removable Torah and a Mazel Tov round add meaning for milestones. Every piece is hand-painted in France.

Many families collect one box each year and bring them all out for the holiday, setting them in a row on the dining table or sideboard. Children love choosing which dreidel goes next to their plate. Others display them year-round on a curio shelf, mixing menorahs and dreidels with blue-and-white pieces. A dreidel is the classic first box for a child, and by the time they are grown they will have a shelf of memories. Chag sameach, and may every candle burn bright.
