Thanksgiving & Fall
Somewhere between the pie debate and the seating chart, you remember you need a hostess gift. Do not grab the grocery store bouquet. Bring a hand-painted Limoges turkey instead. It is charming, a little funny, and it will come back out every November to sit beside the gravy boat. It also arrives gift-boxed, so you can hand it over while still balancing a casserole in the other arm.
Gobble, Gobble, Pop the Lid
The turkeys here have personality. One rests under a porcelain dome with his whole family. Another has wandered, unwisely, into a pressure cooker. There is a small turkey for collectors and plenty of autumn friends to keep him company: pumpkins spilling out of a wheelbarrow, a pumpkin with seeds painted inside, a white pumpkin ready for decorating, glossy candy apples, a leaf-shaped box and a little acorn for the nature lovers. Each one is painted by hand in France, and the hinged lid opens to a tiny space for a place card, a note of thanks or one very small piece of pie.
Harvest Season on a Shelf
Fall collectors love that their pieces can stay out from the first crisp morning in September until the last plate of leftovers. Gather pumpkins, acorns and leaves on a wooden tray for a table centerpiece, tuck a turkey at each end of the mantel, or set the candy apples in a little bowl on the kitchen counter. Many hosts add one fall box each year and set out the whole harvest when the family arrives. It is a decoration, a conversation starter and a tradition, all in one tiny hinged package.
