Doll & Toy Collectors
Miniature lovers are a special breed. They notice the teacup in the dollhouse kitchen, the drawer that really opens and the rug no bigger than a postage stamp. For the doll collector, the dollhouse builder or the grown-up who never stopped playing, Limoges doll and toy boxes are pure joy. Each is hand-painted in France and hinged, and it arrives gift-boxed, like Christmas morning all over again. No batteries, no assembly and no tiny screws lost under the sofa.
This might be the biggest playroom in the shop. Expect toy soldiers, Santa's bag of toys, a teddy bear's chest of toys and a Christmas tree with a doll tucked inside. Dollhouse-scale furniture fills the rooms, with chests in maroon, teal and light blue, a rabbit dresser, a stool with a washbasin and beds for young lovers and cozy older couples. Cats play on chairs and beds, a French lady lounges in a big pink chair and a little table is set for romance. Every lid and drawer opens to reveal a hidden space.
Collectors love building little scenes, and these boxes make it easy. Furnish a porcelain parlor on one shelf, a bedroom on another and stack the chests in the "attic" up top. Display them in a shadow box with real dollhouse pieces, set a vignette on a vanity tray or let a tiny arrangement live on the bookshelf. Each birthday or holiday becomes a chance to add another room. Playtime, it turns out, never really ends.
