Baby's First Birthday
The cake will be smashed, the wrapping paper will beat the toys, and the guest of honor will remember none of it. That is exactly why a first birthday calls for a keepsake. A Limoges first birthday box gives parents a spot for the first curl or tooth and gives the child a treasure to discover years later. Each one is hand-painted in France, hinged and arrives gift-boxed. It beats a toy that squeaks at 3 a.m.
The designs are a nursery parade. Look for baby shoes in brown and white, pacifiers in pink and blue, and babies holding red and yellow balloons. Teddy bears take the spotlight on scooters, slides, toy blocks and in a car, and one even hosts a tea party. A teddy bear chef, a bear on a schoolbook and a bear with a suitcase hint at adventures to come. Every lid opens to a tiny hiding spot for the first snip of hair.
A pair of baby shoes is a sweet first birthday gift from grandparents, and a teddy bear makes a cuddly-looking keepsake from a godparent. The first birthday is a natural starting line for a collection, with one new box each year. Display them in a nursery shadow box, on a high bookshelf, or later on a big-kid dresser. Teddy bears grow up gracefully right along with the child. One candle down, a lifetime of treasures to go.
