Winter Wonderland
Some folks hibernate when the snow flies, while others grab their mittens and race outside to make snow angels. This collection is for the second kind, and for anyone shopping for them. Our winter wonderland Limoges boxes capture the hush of fresh snow, frosty cottages and cheerful snowmen in tiny porcelain form. Unlike a pine-scented candle, a hand-painted box never burns down and never melts. Each one is hand-painted in France, hinged, and arrives gift-boxed, so you can skip the wrapping-paper wrestling match.
Picture a snow globe without the water. You might meet a snowman zipping down a slope on skis, a polar bear with her cub, tuxedo penguins dressed for a party, and a snowboarder catching air. Snowy cottages glow under frosted rooftops, carolers sing on a drum, and Santa makes cameo appearances on his sleigh and an igloo. A winter cardinal on a bell and a dalmatian in a snowy doghouse add pops of color. Lift the hinged lid and there's room for a ring, a note, or one very small chocolate.
Winter scenes make a terrific collection because they can stay out long after the Christmas decorations are packed away. Start with one snowman, and soon a whole frosty village is marching across the mantel. Collectors love grouping them on a mirrored tray so the boxes look like they are skating on a frozen pond, or tucking a few onto a curio shelf with a sprinkle of faux snow. A winter box makes a lovely hostess gift for a holiday party, a cozy January birthday treat or a just-because surprise for the friend who loves a snow day. Stay warm, and let the porcelain do the shivering.
