Thanksgiving & Fall

Somewhere between the pie debate and the seating chart, you remember you need a hostess gift. Skip the grocery store bouquet and bring a Limoges Thanksgiving turkey instead. It is charming, a little funny and hand-painted in France. It arrives gift-boxed, so you can hand it over while balancing a casserole in the other arm. Every November it will come back out to sit beside the gravy boat.

The turkeys here have real personality: one rests under a chrome dome, one waits on a platter and another hides a removable ear of corn. A few unlucky birds have wandered into the roasting pan with their veggies. Autumn friends keep them company, including squirrels with acorns, a scarecrow, a cornucopia and a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins. Hearts covered in autumn leaves make sweet fall gifts. The hinged lid opens to a tiny space for a place card or a note of thanks.

Fall collectors love that their pieces can stay out from the first crisp morning of September until the last plate of leftovers. Gather pumpkins, squirrels and leaves on a wooden tray for a centerpiece, or tuck a turkey at each end of the mantel. Many hosts add one fall box each year and set out the whole harvest when the family arrives. They make thoughtful thank-yous for the host, the cook and the grandparent who carves the bird. Gratitude never looked so good.
